Nickels Energy Solutions, LLC. is fully committed to bringing solar energy solutions to homeowners and business owners in New York state. Our mission is to educate consumers on the environmental and financial benefits of solar energy on their property and provide high quality solar installations.
Founded in Syracuse, New York
Nickels Energy Solutions was founded by Steve and Kevin Nickels – two brothers born and raised in Syracuse, NY. Steve developed a passion for renewable energy while earning his Mechanical Engineering Technology degree from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). As the company President, Steve manages the design and installation of residential, commercial and ground mounted solar installations. Kevin graduated from Le Moyne College and has worked as a sales professional in Central New York since 2013. Kevin manages the Sales and Marketing activity for Nickels Energy Solutions as the company’s Vice President. Steve and Kevin are supported by a combination of full-time employees and part-time employees (and local interns!) that manage the company’s growing design, sales and solar installation needs.
President, Project Design & Management
Since 2011, Steve has worked in the solar industry. He spent time developing and engineering products that are widely used throughout the industry. He also has managed solar installations large and small. With this extensive experience, he moved back to Syracuse and enrolled in renewable energy courses at SUNY-ESF. These courses expanded his knowledge for the solar industry and ultimately qualified him to take the NABCEP exam for the Photovoltaic Installation Professional certification in 2014. He passed the NABCEP exam on his first attempt! With this certification in hand, Steve and Kevin could now install solar projects in New York.
Vice President, Sales & Marketing
After graduating from Le Moyne College, Kevin worked in sales as an Account Executive for Hummel’s Office Plus and CPS Recruitment. Meanwhile, Kevin spent nights and weekends enrolled in Solar Energy International, which provides online courses for industry-leading technical training and expertise in solar energy. Their Technical Sales course provided Kevin with a thorough understanding of solar technology and the best practices for solar industry sales professionals. In 2017, Kevin qualified to take the NABCEP Photovoltaic Technical Sales exam, which is an elite certification. He passed the NABCEP exam on his first attempt!
Solar Project Engineer
Mike Kenney was the first employee hired by the NES. Mike and Steve met on RIT’s campus and quickly learned that they made an excellent team. There are no projects installed by NES that Mike has not touched. His main benefit to NES is ensuring that all solar projects go smoothly from start to finish. We love having Mike as a part of our team because the quality of his work cannot be matched!
Solar Project Manager
Andrew came to NES from SUNY Morrisville’s Renewable Energy Management program as a Solar Installation Intern. With any new intern or employee, some learning curve is expected. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that Andrew was the exception! We appreciate his attention to detail and how he has the utmost respect for our customers and the installation quality that we require at NES.
Solar Sales Representative
After spending time in other industries, Dick became attracted to the solar industry because he wanted to be a part of the climate change solution. As a Solar Sales Representative for NES, Dick has been a key piece of the team as he works closely with Kevin on Sales and Marketing initiatives. Dick is a lifelong resident of Central NY and cares deeply about his family, community and customers.
